Caroline Batten’s review points out the fact that the term “Anglo-Saxon” appearing here and there throughout the book is regarded by some people as controversial. I agree; the revised or second edition of the book will replace the phrase with “early English” wherever practicable–excepting publications like Anglo-Saxon England (annual volume), F.M. Stenton’s Anglo-Saxon England (book), etc., where the phrase cannot now be changed.

My students pointed out that Lesson 34.1, line 5, has a word, cynestol, “royal seat, throne,” that is not found in the Glossary. Also in 35.1, line 6, ofmyrðodon, “murdered,” a form of the weak verb of class II ofmyrðrian, does not appear in the Glossary. These omissions have been added to the current update of the “Comprehensive Errata & Corrigenda.”
